Older People's Health and Social Care Working Group

The older people's health and social care project group has a wealth of knowledge and experience and brings together individuals and organisations such as Age UK and the Older People’s Partnership.

The group have focused on responding to the outcomes of Norfolk's dementia strategy consultation. We are analyzing the consultation data and will be producing a report of our findings with the purpose of establishing immediate actions and priorities in conjunction with joint commissioners.  LINk members will play a key role in specific work streams which will deal with the Government's identified 17 point Dementia Strategy.

The group are also involved in engaging with service users at various day care centres.  We are meeting with service users to ensure that their needs have been recognised and that the delivery of day care in the future matches these aspirations.

Similarly, we have been in dialogue with Norfolk and Waveney Mental Health Foundation Trust providers looking at the design and implementation of a new Dementia Intensive Care Unit.  LINk members have ensured that mental health assessment bed numbers have not reduced and there remains adequate provision to cover peak demand.  The Trust are developing outreach services and LINk members continue to ensure that these services are supporting people with a range of mental health needs.

Finally, the group are reviewing the quality of respite care being jointly commissioned by concentrating on carers having timely assessments, and also how long it can take for respite care to be organised at short notice.
